First Live Search!

August 1st, 2011

Our three qualified dogs all attended their first live search this weekend after a national callout from the Sussex team.  An elderly lady had gone missing from her home, and after two full days of searching the local dogs and foot searchers were getting tired.  Pilippa and Helen attended with Sam, Archie and Spot on the Friday evening and Saturday.  Archie and Spot both spent time out searching, and the misper (missing person) was located as Sam was preparing to go out.  After 62 hours of searching by volunteer from across the country it was great to find the misper somewhat confused and dehydrated, but alive and well.

Training 06.07.11

July 7th, 2011

Well done to all who braved a typically soggy Welsh July evening!! The dogs worked well and the midges didn’t come out to play – both things that were very much appreciated.

Garn Lakes Show 2011

June 29th, 2011

In addition to the Training Weekend, the Team had a presence at the Garn Lakes Country Fayre on the Weekend.

Once again, We agreed to run the Dog Show for the local Council. There were plenty of entries in all categories from the novel to the serious!

Huw has created a Facebook page where photos from the event may be viewed here. Another great fundraising effort from the guys with some great PR thrown in!

National Training Weekend

June 29th, 2011

Members attended the first LSDogs National Training Weekend, held recently at Marlborough in Wiltshire.

The event was well supported and Delegates came from units all over England and Wales. In addition to the obligatory Dog Training sessions, we attended workshops and seminars in Emergency Aid, MisPer Behaviour and Comms theory.

In addition to the training opportunities the event presented a great opportunity for networking and sharing skills and experience with other Teams. We often see other team members but usually at formal assessments where we don’t always have the time to get together in a more relaxed atmosphere.

A great weekend under canvas was had by all!

Fundraising at the Steam Rally

June 2nd, 2011

setup

Once again we took a stall at the Abergavenny Steam Rally over the Bank Holiday weekend, organised by the local Rotary Club.

We had a bit of rain during the morning of the second day, but that was to be expected  – it was a Bank Holiday after all!  The Weather didn’t noticably impact on numbers visiting which meant there were planty of people for us to meet and talk to about our work.

Having some of the working dogs Spot, Mya, Tilly and Ben in attendance helped bring people in and between Megan with her L Plates and Todd with his silky Soccer Skills we had a captive audience.l plates

We must not forget that thanks must go to all the Humans that attended and helped over the two days also!

Great result for a fellow Search Team, well done Louise!

Although Kent is the other side of the Country, we are particularly proud of this search as prior to moving to Kent Louise and Mali were members of South Wales.

Training Day

May 9th, 2011

Thanks to Phillipa for organising a great training day on the weekend.  A full day of exercises with everyone getting a go at foot searching and dog searching.  Also an opportunity for new members to see what full searches entail with documentation and GPS work.  Of course a training day would not be the same without a supply of food so thanks to Jeremy for providing bacon and sausages, and of course swiss roll!  Luckily the weather mostly held out too, with only a short heavy shower in the middle which was compensated for by the fact that the bacon and sausages arrived at that time!!

National Assessments

March 22nd, 2011

There hasn’t been much activity on the Blog of late.

This can possibly be put down to everyone having knuckled down to get three Dogs & Handlers ready for the National Assessment meet held recently in Bracknell.

Eight team members attended, providing Mispers and Operational Support for our Delegates. Special thanks must go to Martin for his continued Catering Support Services.

Out of three Delegates, the team came home with two passes.

Congratulations are due to the Dog Teams that attained their Level II Airscent Qualification. All attendees gained valuable experience at this meet which will doubtless contribute to us bringing home further passes at the next Assessment day.
