We had a great evening’s training in the snow on Castle Meadows, Abergavenny. The moon was so bright we didn’t need torches. Apart from a few hardy dog walkers and a herd of cattle we thought we were the only ones out on this very cold evening. And then, in the distance, we saw someone practising their fire juggling! What an evening!

Training 10.11.10
November 10th, 2010A good nights training last night – unfortunately Ben has a cut on his back so I didn’t bring him this week. The weather is starting to be very cold now and I was almost convinced we had snow at one point – wishful thinking there though. Our thanks to the two Gwent Police POLSA’s who attended to observe our training evening and I’m looking forward to the training scenarios they want to present us with, it sounds like a good challenge for us and the dogs.
October 25th, 2010
All full members attended an Outdoor First Aid course this weekend.
We had a 100% pass rate and we have now each attained an NDAQ Accredited Level 2 Qualification in Outdoor Emergency First Aid.
Marc Parker our facilitator from SLIC training delivered the course really well. Our thanks go out to him for making the content relevant to our requirements and keeping us interested and involved throughout the weekend.
Gratitude must be also be expressed to Bron Afon Community Housing for providing us with such excellent training facilities.
Embarrassing photographs of us strapping each other to Spinal Boards will doubtless follow!
Swimathon
October 8th, 2010Riverside Vets are entering a team into the Rotary Swimathon in November, and have very kindly agreed to donate half the proceeds to our team. So please drop into the surgery and sponsor them – forms are on the Reception desk. The other half of the money will be going towards the Rotary Club themselves. Best of luck to all the swimmers (and I’m one, so I’ll need it!!)
Training 07.10.10
October 8th, 2010A good night’s training last night, Ben did well and the bark is getting there! And thanks to jerry who was already out waiting to be found before the training session started, that shows great patience – must be something to do with the golf mindset…!
Sunday 26th Training
September 28th, 2010Thank you all, for your commitment on the day, for me you all did extremely well.
Training Day Sun 26th
September 26th, 2010A great training day today. Thanks to Les for organising a realistic scenario and some useful and interesting forensic scene training. We got a chance to practice map reading, GPS use, search planning, radio comms, foot searching, and detailed searching so a good all round training session. And a bonus that the weather decided to be nice to us too! Also thanks to Andy for volunteering to be out missing person for the day and spending 4 hours sat in the middle of the forest on his own!!

Training with SARDA 22.09.10
September 23rd, 2010Thanks to all the SARDA members and their dogs who attended the training session last night at Garn Lakes – it was great to see them and very impressive to see their dogs work. I’m looking forward to more joint training sessions to come and have really benefited from talking with some of the handlers.
